Akşit, Chairman of TEI Board of Directors: One of at least two planes in the sky is flying with our parts

TUSAŞ Engine Industry AŞ (TEI) Chairman and General Manager Prof. Dr. Akşit said, "As we sell goods and services to all companies dealing with aircraft engines in the world, at least one of the two aircraft in the sky is flying with our parts." said.

Prof. Dr. Mahmut Faruk Akşit gave information about the history of Turkish aviation at the conference titled "The Journey of an Aircraft Engine in Turkey" held at the Turquoise Hall of Mimar Sinan Campus, in cooperation with Bursa Technical University ( BTU ) and Civilization Association.

Expressing that they have the technological capability to produce both piston engines and all kinds of jet engines at TEI , Akşit stated that unmanned aerial vehicles ( UAVs ) need piston engines, therefore they entered the production of piston engines for UAVs.

Akşit emphasized that the TEI-PD170 engine they developed for UAVs has a power of approximately 172 horsepower and is about 160 kilograms:

"Again, the TS1400 helicopter engine we developed also produces around 200 kilograms but 1500 horsepower. Jet engines produce a lot of power in a small place, but they consume too much. If it produces 10 times the power, it consumes maybe 15 times the fuel. Therefore, helicopters cannot stay in the air for a long time. A helicopter's duty time is 1.5-2 hours. A UAV can even stay in the air for more than 2 days. ANKA-AKSUNGUR UAV has been in the air for 49 hours recently. UAV engines need to burn a little so that they can stay in the air all the time. For this, piston engines, especially diesel "We need the group. That's why UAVs have to use piston engines."

Stating that as TEI, they operate in all of the design, manufacturing and maintenance-repair fields in which an engine company will operate, Akşit said, "When I took office, design was a very small department. It started slowly after the 2000s at the request of our state. When I took office, my main task was to develop the business of designing national engines. "We had an R&D and engineering team of about 80 people. Currently, we have 800 people. We have grown 10 times in about 8 years. We are still growing." used the phrases.

"We sell goods and services to all companies dealing with aviation engines"

Explaining that the factory, which was established in 1985, started with the production of 12 parts, Aksit continued:

"The main purpose of the factory was the assembly and delivery of the F110 engines that power the F-16 warplanes to the Turkish Air Force. It started with the production of 12 parts. Later on, this part production grew a lot and as of now, we sell goods and services to all companies dealing with aviation engines in the world. Except for the Soviet bloc, Russia and Ukraine. Because their technologies are different. We sell to all the others. We sell goods and services to aircraft engine companies of all states in Europe. There is only one Japanese company in the western bloc that we do not sell goods and services dealing with aircraft engines. I hope we sell goods and services to them as well. Our prices are competitive, our quality is good. We maintain the engines of NATO's Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWACS) fleet. We are maintaining the engines of the warplanes of the Saudi Arabian and Oman air forces."

Expressing that the Presidency of Defense Industries, Air Force Command, police and gendarmerie also maintain their helicopters in Turkey, Aksit said:

"As we sell goods and services to all companies dealing with aircraft engines in the world, at least one of the two aircraft in the sky flies with our parts. As of now, we produce and ship parts for nearly 50 international aircraft engines. We are the largest supplier of the world's best-selling engines. We have at least two aircraft in the world. When we say we are making parts for someone, these parts are not simple parts such as screws and bolts. They usually give us the production of stressed and difficult parts. Because the production of difficult parts is risky and expensive. Our price is competitive because our quality and labor are cheaper. We manufacture them. Both narrow body passenger planes "We are not only the largest supplier of the best-selling engine in the engine, but also the largest supplier of the next generation engines of double-aisle wide-body airliners. We are really big in this industry."

At the end of the conference, BTU Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Karademir presented a gift to Aksit.

Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Süleyman Çelik, AK Party Bursa Deputy Osman Mesten, Civilization Association Bursa Provincial Representative Soner Aksoy, academicians and university students attended the conference.

At the end of the conference, Akşit and his companions toured the stands opened by university students in the foyer area and received information about the UAV and other vehicles developed by the students.
