Sivas University of Science and Technology, Advanced Alloys Manufacturing Center Project, which is used in the medical sector in Turkey with the defense industry and non-produced raw materials for manufacturing powder metal production will be added.

Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kul said that they applied to the project in 2020 with the call made within the scope of the "Attraction Centers Support Program" of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

Stating that the project was accepted and that they started to work on the establishment of a pilot facility in the Business Development Center (İŞGEM) in OIZ, Kul said, "Three systems were planned to be established here. One of them is additive manufacturing. Additive manufacturing has been developing rapidly in the world in recent years. said.

Turkey in the metal additive manufacturing in recent years, particularly in the defense industry firms and noted that made the leap of some college servants, more investment in recent years in the country to reach a position where this technology in developed countries and said he carried out research on this subject.

In this context, Kul emphasized that the investment they will make on metal powder bed systems, one of the most widely used metal additive manufacturing technologies, is important for the country.

Stating that these systems, which are used especially in the production of parts in the space, aviation and medical sectors, produce very important and high value-added materials such as aircraft engine parts and structural elements, prosthetics and teeth used in these systems, Kul said, "With this project, the triple system will be used in the industry within our university. For the development of alloys, powder production for additive manufacturing from designed alloys and 3D parts from powders can be produced. " he spoke.

Incremental production of raw materials powder metal is not produced in Turkey and that the transfer is very expensive servant, "Defense companies has brought this issue to during our visit. I was told it was taken difficulties in financial terms or supply in these problems. We whereupon the both defense companies in the medical sector We planned to produce powder metal with gas atomization method suitable for use. used the expressions.

- "Special alloys needed by the defense industry will be produced"

Emphasizing that the facility to be established is a pilot plant with a capacity of 25 kilograms, Kul said:

"Our aim is not to make commercial production with the pilot plant here, but to show that this business can be in our country. It is to ensure the financial sustainability of the center with the sales of small quantities, namely the sales of the powders produced in the pilot plant. One of the problems in powder metal production is that the special alloy ingots, which are their raw materials, are not produced in our country. We also planned to produce the raw material we will use in powder metal production in this pilot facility. For this, a vacuum induction melting system had to be installed. Here, both alloy special ingots to be used in powder metal production or special alloys needed by the defense sector will be produced.

Kul said, "At the same time, the fins of the single crystal jet engines used in the defense sector in the vacuum induction melting system can be produced by the casting method. In other words, single crystal material production can be carried out in the vacuum induction melting furnace." found in the description.

Stating that the tender of the project was made, the contract was signed and the pilot plant will be established in Sivas within 7 months, Kul said, "We see it as an important step since the production of powder metal suitable for additive manufacturing will be done for the first time in our country." he spoke.

Stating that powder metal is used in the production of implants and prostheses in the health sector and in the production of various parts of jet engines in the defense industry, Kul completed his statement as follows:

"Additive manufacturing has been developing rapidly in recent years in the construction of special implants or in the production of various prostheses inside the body. Thanks to additive manufacturing, the prosthesis or implant required for the human body can be manufactured in full dimensions. At the same time, porous structures can be obtained, bone tissues are porous, those pores must also be added. You can easily obtain it in manufacturing. But you do not have the chance to obtain this in other manufacturing methods. Products needed in the defense field and in the health field can be produced here.
