Distinguished observer day activities of Denizkurdu 2021 Exercise are held

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar and the commanding level of the Turkish Armed Forces are following the "distinguished observer day" activities of the Denizkurdu 2021 Exercise in the Eastern Mediterranean.

04 June 2021

Distinguished observer day activities started with the arrival of Minister Akar aboard the "flagship" of the exercise, TCG Salihreis. When Akar came to the ship, a sailor's whistle called "silistra" was blown in accordance with maritime traditions. Greeted by Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, the Commander of the Navy, and wearing the cap with the name of the ship, Akar and the commanders went to the area where they would follow the exercise.

TCG Oruçreis fired 19 rounds of salutation for the flagship carrying Minister Akar leaving the port. SAT teams also demonstrated their skills in the exercise in which SAS teams destroyed mines drifting at sea with a tactical claw operation.

While the SAT personnel, who were thrown into the sea from the helicopter, destroyed the determined targets under water, another SAT team parachuted onto the island and hit the targets there. Another SAT team landed on the target ship using the rope free glide method from the helicopter and carried out the operation.

Having successfully completed their activities, SAT teams made a salutation pass next to the flagship with domestic and national production SAT boats. Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar greeted the personnel who successfully completed their activities.

The exercise continued with the destruction of the moored mine. The mine identified by TCG Alanya was destroyed by mine divers after it was detected by an autonomous underwater vehicle.

In the exercise, in which anti-submarine warfare was carried out, the Seahawk helicopter was then plunged into the sea. After the submarine was detected by the helicopter, a maritime patrol plane was dispatched to the region. The submarine was hit by a torpedo shot from the plane.

In the exercise, where fuel supply was also carried out between the ships at sea, targets were hit with MAM-L from Bayraktar SİHA and Hellfire guided projectiles from Seahawk helicopters, and artillery fire from gunboats.

Environmental sensitivity

Making a presentation of the activities within the scope of the distinguished observer day, the Chief of Operations of the Navy Command, Rear Admiral İsmail Güldoğan, emphasized that the amount of ammunition is kept at a minimum level in all activities, thus avoiding any harm to sea creatures and the environment.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will also address the troops participating in the exercise via video conference.

The exercise started on May 25.

The Seawolf 2021 exercise started on May 25 after the departure of troops and ships from their ports.

133 surface ships, 10 submarines, 43 aircraft, 28 helicopters and 14 unmanned aerial vehicles of the Turkish Armed Forces participated in the exercise.

With the operation, it is aimed to supervise the dispatch and administration efficiency of the headquarters and operations centers, to evaluate the decision-making processes in a multi-threatening environment, to test the interoperability methods and mutual support capabilities, and to increase the training levels of the Naval Forces elements.

In addition to Qatar Navy Commander Abdulla Ali Al Mazroey, military attachés of 25 countries also attended the exercise's distinguished observer day.
